Utriculus, Roman leather wineskin, Imperial Age.
How did Roman legionaries transport water on their long marches?
We know of various types of canteens and wineskins. A wineskin in Latin was called an utriculus.
Our reproduction of a wineskin is based on the depictions of these items on the sarcina (luggage) of Roman legionaries depicted on Trajan’s Column. This item is often mistaken for a bag, but it is now certain that it was a water container.
Our handcrafted replica of a Roman soldier’s wineskin is ideal for the historical reenactor looking for a Roman canteen for historical marches and to always have water available for summer events.
