Tunic from the middle of the 3rd century AD, based on fragments and on frescoes both recovered from Dura Europos, in Syria.
Starting from the 3rd century, particularly in the military world, besides the traditional square or rectangular tunic a new type of sleeved tunic began to be used – probably under both Germanic and Eastern influence.
These tunics, of which we have archaeological finds and depictions like the ones from Dura Europos, have monochrome decorations, which seem to be the prodromes of the more elaborate decorative pieces of the later period.
