The sling was a very simple weapon but that was widely used in the ancient world, both for hunting and, of course, for war.
We know several specialized and mercenary troops using the slingers, coming from the Greek world (e.g. Achaeans and Rhodians) and, maybe the most famous of all, Balearic slingers.
