Called lorikion in the sources of the period, the chainmail is represented on icons of warrior saints and one sample is preserved almost complete, silvered, from Sofia (Bulgaria) dated to the IX-X century. The chainmail was widely used by the Varangians, while it seems to have been less in vogue among the Romans of the East than the klibanion.
