The Greek hoplite is one of the most iconic warriors of the ancient world, thanks to his equipment: a collection of instantly recognizable weapons and armor.
While the most iconic hoplite helmet is perhaps the Corinthian helmet, another very common helmet is undoubtedly the Chalcidian helmet, with or without a crest.
This type is equally widespread in the iconographic sources of classical Greece.
In these sources, the Chalcidian helmet is often associated with the anatomical cuirass, one of the most recognizable and prestigious armors of the ancient world. A powerful warrior symbol, often associated with Heracles, custom-made.
The hoplite’s defensive equipment is completed by the large, richly decorated shield, the aspis, and a pair of anatomical greaves, also custom-made to fit the warrior’s leg perfectly.
While the spear was undoubtedly the preferred weapon of the hoplite phalanx warrior, when pressed, he had to rely on the sword. For this set, we chose a kopis: a short, single-edged sword used in the violent hand-to-hand combat of the ancient world.
