El Alamein 1942. The third, pointless battle.
Since the fights in July and Semptember 1942 already decided the outcome of the war in Africa, the third battle of El Alamein resulted in a pointless massacre, in one of the harshest areas of the world: the Egyptian desert.
The Allies were going to land in Morocco and Algeria, so opening a new front, while the Axis, due to logistic and material issues, could win on the field the 8th British Army anymore.
Nonetheless more than 300.000 men, from all over the world, with thousands of tanks, planes and cannons, fought for twelve, long days in harsh climatic conditions, so that Great Britain could gain the decisive victory.
Led by great commanders such as Rommel and Montgomery, the two armies fought bravely in what will be remember as one of the greatest battles of all times.
The third battle of El Alamein was also the best trial of the Italian Royal Army during World War II.
Italian soldiers fought valiantly and bravely, receiving praise from both allies and adversaries.
