Decorated Roman bag, 1st-3rd century AD
The Romans used various types of bags and purses to store and transport personal effects, documents, and objects. The purse is a useful and often indispensable accessory for both civilian and military life.
The Roman bag was known by various names, depending on its size and function. Two well-known names for the bag or the purse are loculus and pera. Both would have been placed in the sarcina, the baggage that Roman legionaries of the early imperial period carried on the furca.
One of the most famous types of bag from the Roman world is the Comacchio bag.
Our bag, handmade in Italy, is primarily inspired by various visual sources. Among these, the likely bags of Roman legionaries found on monuments such as Trajan’s Column.
The bag is embellished with fine decorations depicting stylized vegetal scrolls. This decoration was extremely widespread and used during the Principate period, even on military equipment such as shields, sword scabbards, and helmets.
This bag is the perfect choice for the Roman reenactor looking for something different and unique, a piece of true craftsmanship that will make them stand out during historical reenactment events.
A bag you can also use in everyday life: an elegant and designe object!
