Celtic helmet, type Forêt de Rouvray, 1st century BC

This Celtic helmet is perfect for anyone wishing to display or wear the equipment of a Gallic warrior who participated in Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars—whether as an ally or auxiliary, or as a warrior of Vercingetorix.
The Forêt de Rouvray helmet, like the Alesia type helmet, belongs to the group of so-called “Western Gallic helmets.” This group of helmets is also called the “Agen type.”
This is a large family of helmets, made entirely of iron, from which the famous Roman helmets of the early imperial period also originated.

Due to its similarity to some Hellenistic helmets, this type is also known as the “Hellenistic-style Gallic helmet.”

This helmet is called the “Forêt de Rouvray” after the location where one of the finds was discovered near Paris.
Helmets of this type are quite rare, so much so that only two examples are known.

These helmets are characterized by a strong rib along the entire circumference of the helmet, located above the second defining element of these helmets, the protective brim that protrudes outward. Furthermore, they feature a strongly shaped apex, which, in addition to giving the helmet its characteristic conical shape, also helps deflect any blows from above.

Finally, the last defining element of the Forêt de Rouvray helmet is the contoured cheekpieces. The cheekpieces of these helmets, hinged at the front of the helmet to protect the face, have a highly distinctive shape and are hammered in relief. The boss that secures the fastening ring of each cheekpiece is decorated with engraved lines.

The Forêt de Rouvray-type Gallic helmet by Res Bellica is a faithful, handcrafted reproduction of a helmet from this family. Every element of this helmet was crafted with care and respect for the original.
A perfect piece for reenactors, museum displays, and collectors.
